Welcome to Dakar, the vibrant capital of Senegal. This tour will take you through a variety of iconic sites, allowing you to explore the cultural diversity and rich history of this dynamic city.
The African Renaissance Monument : Start at the majestic Renaissance Monument, a colossal sculpture representing Senegal's aspiration for freedom and progress. Climb to the top for a panoramic view of Dakar.
The Mosque of the Divinity: Discover the serenity of the Mosque of the Divinity. Its elegant architecture and peaceful atmosphere embody the religious tolerance of Dakar.
The Cathedral of African Remembrance: Explore the Cathedral of African Remembrance, a tribute to Africa's struggles for independence. Its stained glass windows and history are breathtaking.
National Assembly and Presidential Palace: Capture memories by taking photos of the National Assembly and the Presidential Palace, symbols of Senegalese democracy and governance.
The Kermel Market: It’s still excellently preserved. You can see lots of bright colors inside and outside the building. The market provides beautiful fresh products, typical of Senegal. Market gardeners, grocers, butchers and fishmongers are at the heart of the building, surrounded by decoration vendors, artists and artisans.
The Museum of Black Civilisations : Two objectives emerge for the museum: * To create a non-ethnographic museum, that is to say not devoted solely to primitive arts, and not commemorating the slave past of the populations of the continent. * Show the vitality of the entire African continent through "cultures and civilizations of the black worlds".
The Handcraft Market of Soumbedioune : Created in 1961, this village is a good place to get an idea of what the artisans of the country produce. Gathered by professional category, the craftsmen exhibit a wide choice of sculpted works. There are also all types of leather goods (cow, snake, goat, crocodile) and jewelry.
Each step of this tour offers you a deep immersion in the culture, history and daily life of Dakar, making this adventure an unforgettable experience.
Nothing can prepare you for the overwhelming flood of emotions that rush through you when you step onto Goree Island. The cobblestone streets, worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, seem to guide you toward a place where history’s darkest moments are etched into every corner. This island, so serene on the surface, holds the grim history of the transatlantic slave trade—where human lives were commodified, where brutality from Europeans was the norm, and where the seeds of centuries-long oppression were sown. It’s a place that feels both haunted and hallowed, but no one can brace you for the weight of history that hits you square in the chest when you approach the doorway marked « Maison des Esclaves » —the House of Slaves. The moment you see the weathered wooden frame and the words etched above it, your heart starts racing. You realize you’re about to enter a space where lives were shattered, dreams were destroyed, and where unspeakable horrors unfolded behind these very walls. This is where the first human beings—men, women, and children—were kidnapped from their homeland, shackled, and led to the waiting slave ships that would carry them across the Atlantic into a nightmare.
Travel by car from your hotel to the Bandia Wildlife Reserve, which is situated on a site of more than 3,000 hectares in the middle of a baobab forest 65 kilometers from Dakar along the route to Mbour, close to the settlement of Bandia. The animals are completely safe and allowed to roam about.
Following the park's entrance procedures, we will board a 4x4 jeep with a certified guide to observe the white rhinoceros, oryx, impala, Cape and Derby Elands, warthogs, buffalo, golden jackals, crocodiles, green monkeys, and more. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to explore the Serer ethnic group's pyramids and the griot's burial, which is a thousand-year-old baobab tree. Additionally, a diverse range of birds can be observed in the savannah and around the waterhole: red-billed hornbills, grey herons, African eagles...
The Bandia Ranch is located only 65 km from Dakar. It's a natural park of several hectares and home to many wild animals, including lions (6) and lion cubs (3). Bandia Ranch offers two main activities:
* Visit the lion cubs: Meet the park's 3 lion cubs and spend unique moments with them. You'll be able to touch them, play with them and take photos, all while respecting safety precautions - these are wild animals after all.
* Lion Safari : Aboard a secure vehicle with experienced guides, you'll spend 30 minutes discovering the life of these iconic animals, who won't hesitate to climb aboard to enhance your ride.
On the Petite-Côte, La Somone, named after a small local river, invites you to relax. The Somone has its source in the Ndiass massif near Thiès and flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Its mouth, separated by a sand spit, forms a nature reserve. Since 1999, the Somone lagoon has been a 700-hectare nature reserve, a paradise for bird watchers. The lagoon is home to 172 bird species. At low tide, the sandbanks and mangrove roots are a favourite feeding ground for many birds. From a pirogue you can easily see gulls, pelicans, grey herons, egrets, terns, ospreys, red-billed hornbills, curlews, gannets, cormorants and more. Regularly, a flock of birds breaks the silence. And let's not forget the fiddler crabs, whose nimble little legs tap on the sandbanks and disappear into their holes at the slightest vibration.
This is a great walk for nature lovers while you wait to discover the charms of the Siné Saloum or Casamance.
Afterwards, you can enjoy a drink or lunch at Rasta's restaurant or try some oysters at Norbert's.
